Born as Eldrick Tont Woods in Cypress, California, on December 30, 1975, to an African American Army officer father and a Thai mother, Woods learned to play golf as a child. He has two half-brothers and a half-sister from his father’s first marriage.   

Woods’ father began calling him “Tiger” when he was a young boy, honoring a fellow soldier and buddy who had the same nickname. He was a student at Western High School in Anaheim.

Before becoming a professional in 1996, Woods attended Stanford University and won a series of amateur golf events in the United States. He was instantly given partnerships with Nike, Inc., and Titleist after becoming a professional golfer in 1996, owing to his undergraduate success.

He won his first major tournament, the Masters in 1997, and again in the Official World Golf Rankings, he was rated No. 1. In 1999, he won the PGA Championship.

The US Open was one of his triumphs in the year 2000 and, as he broke or tied nine records. Tiger won multiple golf trophies during that season, including the 2001 Masters Tournament. Tiger became the first player to win all four major professional titles simultaneously.

However, in late 2008, he was forced to pause due to knee surgery. In 2009, Tiger was warmly welcomed back to the game after recovery.

He did not disappoint his supporters and delivered an outstanding performance to win the 2009 Presidents Cup. By 2013, he had returned to his former self. In January, he won the Farmers Insurance Open, and in March, he won the WGC-Cadillac Championship. With a victory at the Arnold Palmer Invitational, he was re-established as the World No. 1 golfer.

Woods had his sixth microdiscectomy surgery on his back on December 23, 2020, and the update was that he had a successful surgery. In early January 2021, the Netflix documentary film Tiger was released on his professional life.

About Woods’s relationship status, Erica Herman, a restaurant manager, has been his girlfriend since late 2017. In 2004, he married his ex-wife, Elin Nordegren, a former Swedish model. They were the parents of two children, a daughter named Sam Alexis Woods and Charlie Axel Woods.
