Career

After working as a professional bull rider in the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association, he dropped the profession and decided to chase a career as a professional wrestler. He was trained by Jerry Grey and wrestled on the independent circuit for a period of 8 good years before finally signing a contract with the WWF in the year 1993.

He made his WWE debut on the 17th of May 1993 episode of raw in a tag team match alongside Bart Gunn to defeat Glenn Ruth and Tony Vadja making him and Bart now known as the Smoking Gunns. They made a pay-per-view debut at the King Of The Ring contest in an eight-man tag team match as they teamed up with The Steiner Brothers to defeat The Head shrinkers and Money Inc.

The Smoking Gunns teamed up with Tatanka to defeat The Head shrinkers and Bam Bam Bigdon at summer slam and Gunn was eliminated by Diesel when he entered his first royal rumble match on the 22nd of January, 1994. Finally in early 1995, the Smoking Gunns got their first tag team championship putting down the makeshift team of 1-2-3 kid and Bob Holly and holding the championship title till WrestleMania IX where it was collected from them by a team consisting of Yokozuna and Owen Hart but collected back the title in September, 1995.

On the 15th of February in the year 1996, Billy needed a neck injury and do the title was vacated and after he returned from his surgery, the Smoking Gunns won for the third time in his career the tag team championship but lost it again on the 22nd of September at the ‘In Your House: Mind Games’ to the British Bulldog and Owen Hart and while being frustrated due to the loss, Billy walked out on Bart and thereby breaking up the Smoking Gunns.

He later on teamed up with Road Dogg as the New Age Outlaws winning 6 tag team championship and later also teamed up with Chuck as Billy and Chuck winning two championships making it a total of 11 tag team championships with three different partners.
Billy Gunn was the King Of The Ring tournament winner in the year 1999, the WWE Hardcore championship twice and held the intercontinental championship. He also competed in TNA wrestling from the year 2005 to 2009, on independent circuit and started competing in 2016 for New Japan Pro wrestling and was finally inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame class of 2019 as a member of D-Generation X.
